Corporate Image - Identify Yourself!

You don’t have to be a huge corporation to establish an image that identifies your business and sets you apart from the competition.  By using a logo and a consistent style it’s surprisingly easy and cost effective to develop an image that your customer can instantly recognise.

You can develop your own logo if you’re on a tight budget, or else find a local design agency to come up with some ideas for you.  Going the design agency route is usually more cost effective in the long run, as you’re likely to be rewarded with a professional design that will really add value to your business identity.  They’ll also have plenty of experience with logos and business branding which saves you having to learn!  Sometimes it’s possible to find funding support for marketing design work, so it’s worth checking with your local Business Link to see if any help is available.

Once you have established a logo, or even just a style for your marketing materials (which can be as simple as picking colours and fonts that you use – you don’t have to have a “picture” to represent your company identity: think of Coca Cola) the key is to be consistent.

What that means is that every time you produce a leaflet, website, business card, letterhead or other office stationery – they should all look the same.  It’s a good idea to make a note of your style so that if you have other people working in your business, they know how things should look too.  You can also set up templates for stationery if you use a computer system, which means that everyone is using exactly the same document each time.

Being consistent will allow your business identity to become really established in people’s minds.  Then who will your customers contact when they think of your particular product or service?  The business they remember, of course!!
