Blogging for All
If you're new to blogging it can be a bit daunting. Blogs (short for “web-logs”) started out as personal online diaries, which is one of the reasons businesses find them difficult to understand as a marketing tool.
But the corporate blog is coming of age and it's really easy to start one for your business.
Why do you need a blog?
Surprsingly, there's more than one good reason to do this, particularly if you have a good website, and one which you'd like to drive more traffic to. The main benefits of having a corporate blog are:
- There is always a link to your website in your blog
- Google likes blogs as they are by their nature full of fresh content
- You can position yourself as an expert in your field
- They're free!
- You can write them from anywhere.
There are several ways to start a blog:
- Using a service such as www.blogger.com (owned by Google) which makes it very easy to get started in minutes.
- Setting up a blog under your own identity with its own domain, using an online CMS (Content Management System) such as Wordpress (www.wordpress.org).
You can either keep your blog as a standalone domain or integrate it as part of your website. There are benefits to both...
- "Standalone" sends traffic to your website, giving twice the opportunity of people connecting to you in some way
- Part of your website makes your website more attractive to search engines as the content is automatically more up to date.
