Knowing that you need a marketing plan to take your business forward is one thing.. how to put one together is another matter altogether! Even if you already have marketing experience or run your own business doing everything including the marketing and the washing up, putting together a plan is not something you do everyday.
But without a plan you know you're not going to get there, so it has to be done. Using a Marketing Plan template is a very effective way to get started. If nothing else, you'll have all of the headings to get you thinking about what should appear in your plan.
If you need to raise some money to achieve your marketing objectives (e.g. looking for a grant) then a marketing plan is usually essential. How you put it together really depends on the time you have available and what you need it for. There are books written on putting your marketing plan together, and these can be a good starting point to develop a template, but it will take time to digest and put together your own. So after this a ready-made template is a good option. You need to bear in mind that quite a bit of time will still be needed as all of the plan's components will need writing.
There are plenty of free templates out there on the Internet where you can do just this. Or if you're really short of time or inspiration(!) then an interactive planning tool like MarketingPlanWiz will ensure that you produce a tailored plan for your business with ease and less “time-out”.
